Memorial Game. Friday 24th July
A great day despite the best efforts of this wet July in which two very good sides battled hard for the Jim B Memorial Trophy.
The Select X1 batted first with ex-Warwick overseas player Pete Wood and Quarndon's Jamie Ede playing a vast array of shots to get Martin Parish's side off to a flyer. Wood perished ironically at the hands of Mike Looch ( now qualified to play as a resident player)in the deep but Ede went on to plunder the home side bowling to all parts in a brilliant not out innings of 123. He was ably supported by South African guest, Robin broom who made 47 and latterly by leamingtons Faisel Irfan in an imposing target of 253-6. The Warwick bowlers toiled well on a flat wicket and then produced a stirring effort in trying to chase down the total. After the dramatic early loss of form man Martin Donald, Ross Briscoe, Jamie Coleman, guest, Lee Hopkins with a superb 73 and then Looch with a very assured 68 not out gave hope but the bowling of The select side in the form of Tim Kirk, Ede, Sticky Dellow and the impressive Irfan was ultimately too much with Warwick closing on a very respectable 245-5.
The players then retired for Flan.

Fred Lewis (3-53), Andy Lippett (2-54), Tom Austin (1-16) & Graham Griffiths 1-8 were the successful bowlers.
In reply openers Mike Wilson (39) & Rob Tandy (13) shared 44, and once the latter was dismissed Dave Renton went on the offensive as he hammered 70, including eleven boundaries and two maximums and he was well supported by Jon Shaw (26*). Warwick reached their target for the loss of 4 wickets in 38 overs.
Sun 1st XI
Warwick 1st XIs match at Four Oaks Saints was abandoned without a bal being bowled.
Sun 2nd XI
Warwick 2nd XI managed to beat most of the showers as they claimed a rain-affected win against Four Oaks Saints. Four Oaks batted first and despite their top three all making good starts wickets fell at regular intervals and they were all out for 106. Hashmi (27), Sharma (16) & Wardell (16) were the only visiting batsmen to reach double figures. Andy Lippett took 3-28, Tom Austin 4-28 while Ash Tomar, Fred Lewis & Steve Dellow took 1 wicket each.
Showers meant that Warwick only had to score 66 from 25 overs, and despite the loss of 2 early wickets they reached their target comfortably for the loss of just 4 wickets. Steve Dellow hit 20, Dan Robbins 10, Fred Lewis 9* & Jorg Singh 12*.
Under 17's
Berkswell under 17's V Warwick Under 17's
Warwick travelled to Berkswell for there first game and lost narrowly in a game affected by rain. Skipper James Davies won the toss and elected to bowl on a typical dusty Berkswell track. Berkswell captain Coleman (52) got his side off to a good start with some fine shots all round the wicket but lacked any support form his fellow batsmen who all failed to reach double figures in a total of 111-7 from there 20 overs with extras (25) being the second highest scorer. Ali McKee bowled two typically aggressive spells to finish with fine figures of 4-1-21-3 and removed the dangerous Coleman in his second spell to stem the run rate. All the Warwick bowlers performed admirably with Tom Hitchenor proving to be the most economical with a return 4-2-10-1. A heavy downpoor prior to the commencement of the Warwick innings resulted in Warwick being set a reduced target of 69 of 12 overs. Warwick lost Davies early but a parnership of 21 inside two overs between Passey (18) and Moore put Warwick into the box seat with 30 on the board after 4 overs. Berkswell captain Coleman (3-0-8-3) then turned the game on its head with the introduction to the bowling attack of himself and fellow slow bowler Holte (2-0-10-1). This sparked a mid innings colapse with Warwick slumping to 39 for 4 after 8 overs. Duckworth and Gray put together a partnership of 17 before both were dismissed in the 11th over with the score on 58 leaving warwick requiring 11 off the final over for the win. Hitchenor added some much needed urgency to the innings with 8 off 4 balls but Warwick fell an agonising 3 runs short of there target.
Warwick Under 17's V Standard Sphinx Under 17's
Warwick won the toss and elected to bat on a fine evening at Hampton Road. Openers Davies (21) & Passey (20) put on 44 for the 1st wicket inside the first 9 overs. The introduction of leg spinner L.Oxley (4-1-7-3) and seamer V.Shah (4-1-9-1) strangled the Warwick middle order with the loss of 5 wickets and only 14 runs coming of the next 6 overs. Mike Duckworth (24) and Tom Hitchenor (8*) got Warwick to 97 for 8 thanks to some fine shots towards the end of the innings but wickets continued to tumble with B.Paul producing figures of 3-0-32-3. The shinx reply started swiftly with J.Fox (21) and M.Tidmarsh (26) putting on 41 inside 7 overs before the introduction of Passey (4-0-17-3). Although Warwick fought back bravely to reduce Standard to 93 for 6 V.Shah finished the game with a boundary to get Standard home with 6 balls to spare. Again tight bowling from Duckworth, Hitchenor and Arya led to them all picking up a wicket each, however 30 extras inside the Sphinx innings cost Warwick dearly in a low scoring game.

Under 10's
Warwick fielded a young side including three year 4s and two year 3s and put on a very good performance against Leamingtons county and district under 10 players.
Warwick fielded excellently on the hard and bumpy outfield. Luke Webb bowled with good pace and was the only wicket taker. He also scored an excellent run-out with a direct hit from the covers. Josh Haigh, Jacob Spruce and Callum Webb also bowled well without luck. Andrew Dellow bowled excellently at the death only conceding 9 runs from his 3 overs including a last over maiden. Leamington batted sensibly and kept the scoreboard moving to total 317. Former Leamington player Charlie Bewick amongst the runs with 12 (grr!)

Luke Webb and Joe Hardwick batted excellently together to add 17 with Joe playing the shot of the match with a Pietersen-esque clip through mid-wicket for four. Andrew Dellow again showed his potential top scoring with 8.
I havent mentioned Will Cosnett but he also played well thoughout in a tough game against very strong opposition.
Warwick closed well behind on 225 but this was a good performance and its great to see the young players learning improving every week.
Under 11's
There was a disappointing defeat for the Under 10s at home to Kenilworth Wardens on Sunday morning at Hampton Road.
Skipper Callum Webb won the toss and chose to bowl. Jacob Spruce again bowled accurately. Luke Webb and Ben Rhodes bowled well and with some good pace but none of the Warwick bowlers managed to pick up a wicket. Wardens batted well but sharper fielding from Warwick could have yielded several run-outs as Wardens repeatedly took risky runs, but it wasnt to be. Kenilworth, assisted by a high extras count totalled 315.
In reply, Warwick started slowly but Leon Daniels and Josh Haigh batted solidly to keep their wickets intact. Luke Webb and Jake Neale injected some momentum into the innings with 5 runs each in a partnership of 17, but wickets continued to fall and the innings closed on 215.

Warwick Under 10s kicked off their league campaign at home with a good win over local rivals Leamington Khalsa last night. Khalsa very kindly provided a substitute fielder and allowed someone to bat twice after Warwick were reduced to 7 players at the last minute due to sickness.

Andrew Dellow, who was last man and given permission to bat twice, took full advantage and plundered 31 to comfortably see Warwick home on 295
Under 11's
Warwick travelled to Exhall on Monday for the final Under 11 league match of the season.
Batting first, Warwick played sensible shots but were undone by a fantastic fielding display by Exhall. Two direct hits from the outfield, 2 good catches and a further two run-outs were among the nine wickets to fall which cost Warwick 45 runs and effectively any hope of winning the match.
On the positive side, Luke and Callum Webb showed how much their batting has improved this season against a strong bowling attack. Harry Fergusson once again batted positively. Louis Mitchell and Rory Elliston kept the scoreboard moving with Rory hitting 3 impressive boundaries.
In reply, Exhall batted sensibly, taking minimal risks and scoring regularly to finish comfortable winners on 308. Warwick took only 1 wicket via a run-out, although there were chances, and George Gill was very unlucky to not pick up a couple of wickets. Luke Webb took the gloves for the first time and did well behind the stumps and Louis Mitchell bowled with great control to put the Exhall batsmen under some pressure.
Under 11's
Warwick took 2 under 11 sides to a soft ball cricket tournament at Kenilworth on Sunday.
The Bears side was captained by James Huggins and the Wolves by Harry Fergusson. Both sides played two matches against two Kenilworth sides.
In their first match, the Bears lost by just one run, with Joshua Haigh scoring 9, Ronit Kanwar 12 and Louis Mitchell 8 in a total of 253. In reply Benedict Wilson and Jake Neale took a wicket each but it wasnt quite enough as Kenilworth edged to victory.

The Cavaliers only lost 1 wicket in reply to Joe Hardwicks bowling and finished winners by 8 runs on 251.
The Bears bowled first in their second match Ben Wilson, Jake Neale and Ronit Kanwar taking wickets as Kenilworth reached 253. Warwick, in reply, never really threatened their target due to an exceptional fielding Performance by the Cavaliers. Three run-outs from direct hits and 2 good catches kept the score down despite good attacking play from Ronit Kanwar and Jake Neale, tip and running from Louis Mitchell and James Huggins and good contributions from Benedict Wilson, Leon Daniels and Joshua Haigh, due to losing the 5 wickets, Warwick closed on 229
A similar losing margin for the Wolves second game but Sarah Knott took 2 wickets and Martha Parsons and Harry Fergusson bowled tidily. Callum Webb did a great job behind the stumps. Apologies but I dont have the Warwick batsmens scores for this game, but Warwick scored 218 in reply to Kenilworths 261.
Many thanks to Kenilworth for staging the tournament and inviting us over. It was great fun and a brilliant opportunity for many of our younger players to play more cricket. The players seemed to have a great time and we were well supported by the parents.
Thanks also to Damon, Martin and Owen for scoring, umpiring & supervising.

The under 11s came back down to earth with a bump on Monday at King Edward's school against Stratford. Warwick were unlucky not to pick up more wickets with Louis Mitchell and Andrew Dellow in particular beating the bat on several occasions, a number of close run-out chances and 3 catches going down.
In reply, Warwick had no answer to the pace of the Stratford bowlers, who were aided by a bouncy King Edwards artificial wicket. Several blows to the body were taken and wickets fell regularly. Steady batting down the order from Ronit Kanwar 5, Jake Neale 6., Andrew Dellow 5 & Harry Fergusson 7 kept the scoreboard ticking over. Adam hit the ball hard and put the Warwick bowlers under pressure scoring 17 runs, but Warwick held their nerve and a wicket for Andrew Dellow and an excellent run-out from keeper Jake Neale meant Warwick won the match by 2 runs.
