A Big Thank-You from Warwick Cricket Club
Warwick Cricket Club would like to express its sincere thanks to the charitable organisations that have helped with our various projects over the last few years.
As a voluntary organisation we rely on the hard work of our members as well as charitable support to enable us to continue to provide the best facilities possible to the community of Warwick and surrounding area.
We would particularly like to thank the Heart of England Charitable Foundation who provide a significant amount of small grants to improve Coventry and Warwickshire’s neighbourhoods and communities.

In 2005, Heart of England Foundation provided funds towards the purchase of Sports field tractor and gang mowers that we use to maintain the picturesque outfield at Hampton Road. We are often complemented by visitors and residents of Warwick about how good the outfield looks. Thanks also goes to Mal for actually doing the cutting-mind the giraffes!
The sports field tractor is a diesel Kioti and it, together with a set of gang mowers were obtained from Abbey Mower Supplies Ltd. Bericote Road, Blackdown, Leamington Spa, CV32 6QP. Tel: 01926 330633.

Over the past few years the King Henry the VIII endowed trust of Warwick (http://www.kinghenryviii.org.uk/) has actively supported several projects at Warwick Cricket Club and Warwick Sports Club.
“The King Henry VIII Endowed Trust makes grants from the Town's Share of its income to help the community in the area of the Old Borough of Warwick, and was founded by Letters Patent dated 15th May 1545.”
In 2006, the trust provided funds towards the purchase of a new wicket roller. During the latter half of the 2005 season our extremely old roller (“Bessie” from Perkins of Peterborough-1930ish vintage) with its original engine and gear box broke down never to be repaired. It was identical to this one, which is still used at the Sydney Cricket Ground (the SCG) in Australia (note the new engine!).
With the help of the grant from King Henry and Butler-Reynolds (dealers in plant machinery – see http://www.butlerreynolds.co.uk/index-1.htm) we were able to obtain a refurbished Benfords pavement roller ideal for our needs. In addition, King Henry made available funds towards the cost of a new garage to keep the roller in, something Bessie had missed out on for many years!
In 2009, Heart of England Foundation funded the purchase of Sisis Scarifier (also known as an autorake - http://www.sisis.com/machinery.html see picture below). Delivered in May this year, this machine is used on the wicket to provide a true and even bounce and is identical to that used at county grounds such as Edgbaston. Thanks also should go to Paul (also pictured below) and Claire for all their work as our volunteer grounds staff.
The Lords Taverners (http://www.lordstaverners.org/) is one of the the UK’s leading youth sports and disability charities and the official charity of local recreational cricket. Warwick Cricket Club has received support from the Taverners over the years including most recently a contribution towards the cost of a new youth team all weather cricket pitch (2009). This facility allows us to offer the best practice and match facilities possible for our burgeoning youth team. The all weather pitch was installed by http://www.exclusiveleisure.co.uk/ of Leicester to the latest ECB standards.

Lastly I would like to personally thank all those people working at the charities and the suppliers we have dealt with over the years for their help with our projects. Every one has been helpful, accommodating and understanding of our particular needs and issues.
Warwick Cricket and Sports Club hopes to continue to maintain and improve the facilities for amateur sport (cricket, tennis and hockey) it offers to the local community of Warwick. It does so through the commitment of members and stalwarts of the club who give their time and money so we can continue to play cricket. Without them there would be no club to talk about.

The Scorebox
Tucked to one side of the majority of English Cricket Fields is one of the most important parts of the Cricket Day.....The Scorebox.
Over the many years at our club the scorebox has surfaced in a variety of positions. On the Balcony, in the corner adjacent to the Tennis Courts at the Goldsmith Avenue end and in countless guises, much in the position it is now resides. The old Caravan Scorebox which served us so well for many years was put to bed approx. 5-years ago and in its place the delightful and beautifully appointed structure pictured below stands. Once again a project managed by Dennis Coleman and helped along by the countless club members and local businesses joined forces with a massive helping hand from The King Henry V111 trust help bring together 'Gareth's Summer residence'.
Also in the last few years our club has acquired a new boundary rope and excellent Site-Screens which have been put together by club members; in particular, Dave White and sit proudly at either end of the field.
So one only has to look across the hallowed turf to see that Warwick Cricket Club is a club that is determined to go places. We have our ups and downs like all sports clubs but the culture and social aspect of this club is hard to rival.......Just ask anyone who has played here!
